Incredibly cute story about how one boy befriends his biggest fear, the Dark。

Giacinta

I liked the illustrations in this, I thought they were very clever。 The book is a good way to help kids talk about their fears of the dark and I think it does a great job of getting into the mindset of a child who struggles with this。

Cute story about being afraid of the dark。

I really liked this book because it tells students that there can be scary things in the world, but once you conquer and acknowledge them it wil be okay。 Good read for 2nd grade , even 1st。

I would like to be less attached to this picture book, but I am far beyond the Orion connected to its three stars belt。 It would be better and wiser and healthier for me to skip all the synchronicities, but I don't have that privilege of not-knowing。 It would be easier for me to abandon the whole mrigashira's existence and numb myself with wilfull forgetfulness。 Instead, I overdose my 4 a。m。's with visions, dreams and yearnings where I find myself craving feelings which are just my memories。 And I would like to be less attached to this picture book, but I am far beyond the Orion connected to its three stars belt。 It would be better and wiser and healthier for me to skip all the synchronicities, but I don't have that privilege of not-knowing。 It would be easier for me to abandon the whole mrigashira's existence and numb myself with wilfull forgetfulness。 Instead, I overdose my 4 a。m。's with visions, dreams and yearnings where I find myself craving feelings which are just my memories。 And when I hug the night just like Orion does, I find silence and answers。 。。。more

The artwork is beautiful and the story was sweet and unique: Following a little boy, Orion, who is afraid of the dark when the dark suddenly manifests to life and shows him that the dark isn’t so scary after all。 I personally think that this story is better suited for young readers versus being read aloud。 It wasn’t so easy for my little listener to follow。

For: fans of The Dark (or people that want to look at it in a friendlier way); readers looking for a sweet book about overcoming fear。Possible red flags: terror and distress; anxiety。

Kat

I love this concept of befriending the dark。

Ashley Ewert

Orion is afraid of the dark more than anything until the friendly dark comes into his room and helps him overcome his fear。

M

There are a couple very clever design pages that truly enhance the story-telling。

Orion hates bedtime because he is afraid of the dark。 One night as he tells the dark that he is tired of being afraid, the Dark sneaks into his room to introduce himself。 They go off to explore all of the dark and spooky places together。 In the end, Orion is no longer scared of the Dark。A bit to busy for storytime。 Illustrations are eerily similar to Oliver Jeffers。

Lara Bate

A boy name Orion becomes friends with the dark。

Taylor Ingram

This is a great book for younger students who might struggle with being scared of the dark。 It also has themes of friendship and overcoming fears in general。

This book is so cute!! I love all the detail and illustration but the message is good too。 Being scared of the dark super so common in children so the way they humanize it and make it into a good character is a great way to get this fear out of kids。

As a child I remember growing up and being scared of the dark。 Unsure of what was lurking in the shadows or what might be hiding in a darkened room, and creaky floorboards and the grumbling of pipes used to frighten me to my core。Orion’s world is full of frightening things - wasps, popping balloons, spiders, monster and haircuts to name a few。 But the thing that terrifies him more than anything else though is…the dark。 Despite trying lots of different ways to overcome his fear - including captur As a child I remember growing up and being scared of the dark。 Unsure of what was lurking in the shadows or what might be hiding in a darkened room, and creaky floorboards and the grumbling of pipes used to frighten me to my core。Orion’s world is full of frightening things - wasps, popping balloons, spiders, monster and haircuts to name a few。 But the thing that terrifies him more than anything else though is…the dark。 Despite trying lots of different ways to overcome his fear - including capturing the sun, painting his room in glow-in-the-dark paint and inventing the everlasting lightbulb - nothing has worked and it is soon time for bed again where the dark awaits。 One night, Orion shouts mean things at the dark as it watches him through the skylight。 Everything was fine until the dark is tired of being shouted at and leaps into Orion’s room and is sitting in his swivel chair。 Can the dark show Orion that it is not something to fear…This is a fantastical adventure of a young boy overcoming his fears。 The dark and Orion journey into the shadows and the scariest pats of the house to see what really lurks there。 They then head out into the night to learn about the many sounds and noises of the night。 Finally facing Orion’s biggest fear of all…space。 What Orion learns is that things are not as scary as he first thought and his over-active imagination is responsible for many of his dark-related fears。If you are familiar with any of Emma Yarlett’s books then you will be expecting impressive artwork and creative page layouts。 Orion and the Dark does not disappoint。 The illustrations are bold and the use of dark colours perfectly capture Orion’s fear of the dark。 The two cut-out pages are brilliant and innovative, Emma Yarlett is an expert at producing books with innovative and creative designs。A wonderful book for sharing with children who are fearful of the dark。 It will help children to see that the dark is nothing to be fearful of, in fact he is a rather friendly person if you give him the chance to let him show you。Recommended for 5+。 。。。more

If you are gaga over illustrations, this book fits the bill。 The kids liked the story and so did I。

Lexi

The story and illustrations are great。 However the fonts used are illegible。 This was such a difficult book to read。 Font colors were also very similar to the dark backgrounds。

Crissell

Orion faces his biggest fear and finds out it is not as scary as he thought。 Teaching kids about their fears。 Sharing their fears。 Overcoming them。 Seeing others fears。

I picked this up from my local library after reading Dragon Post by this illustrator and becoming determined to track down her other books because I loved the art style so much。 This is one of my favourites of hers now!The story follows Orion, a little boy with a lot of fears。 I loved how each fear was listed and named, yet never ridiculed。 One of his fears is the dark。。。until Dark itself appears and takes him on an adventure to see that the Dark is actually rather magical。 Beautiful illustratio I picked this up from my local library after reading Dragon Post by this illustrator and becoming determined to track down her other books because I loved the art style so much。 This is one of my favourites of hers now!The story follows Orion, a little boy with a lot of fears。 I loved how each fear was listed and named, yet never ridiculed。 One of his fears is the dark。。。until Dark itself appears and takes him on an adventure to see that the Dark is actually rather magical。 Beautiful illustrations and a wonderful message make this one a winner。 。。。more
